Flat Screen Friday

If you missed last night’s game then  you missed a beautiful summer evening and a VERY exciting Sea Dogs win.  Don’t worry, you have a chance to catch a game tonight when we take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 7pm.

Behind home plate during last night’s game

Tonight is especially exciting because it is our first ever Flat Screen Friday.  Thanks to David Munster’s TV Sales & Service over on Forest Avenue, we have two 32 inch Panasonic Flat Screen TVs to give away this evening.

Fans may enter at the TD Insurance Information Desk.  The winners will be drawn live during the game at the bottom of the fifth inning and the bottom of the seventh inning .  Fans may only enter their name once, and they must be present to win!  The winners need to pick up their TVs at David Munster’s 373 Forest Avenue Location.  Every one there has been tremendous to work with and are so nice and knowledgeable.  They can even service the things they sell which, if you’re as technically un-savvy as I am, is huge.

Even if you are not one of the two people selected to win a television, you can still bring in your ticket from tonight’s game to receive 10% off your purchase at his store.  Also, every Friday night from here on out will be Flat Screen Friday, so, get your tickets now!

So, come out to the park, enjoy a beautiful summer evening and possibly win a beautiful brand-name flat screen!

Good, because once the doves are released, it’s official.

And they’re out…I was informed yesterday that they both made it home safely.  Thank you to White Doves of Maine!

Just a twenty-one picture recap of our home series meant to brighten your day. The Sea Dogs come back on June 19th, and stay for a quick three games (19, 20, 21) against Harrisburg.  We have a lot of fun events planned these three days so stay-tuned and stay dry!

Heading into the Weekend with a Bang!

Tonight’s game was shortened by rain, called in the top of the 8th inning.  There was also a fair amount of impressive lightning.  Have no fear, however, the weather for Saturday and Sunday looks great, and here are some of the fun activities that we have going on.

TOMORROW! Saturday June 9th, 2012

6pm Game Time

4:30pm Gates Open to the Public

As usual on Saturday, The Kastaways will be performing in the front plaza from 4:15pm-6:15pm.

The Sea Dogs’ own band, The Kastaways, performing every Saturday.

Also on Saturday we are unveiling our first ever Renew Your Wedding Vows night at the Sea Dogs! The first 500 fans to enter the park will receive some pocket tissues, for those who cry at weddings.  At 5:15pm I will lead all of the happy couples onto the warning track, where they will be treated to a renewal ceremony by famous Notary Lori Voornas of Q97.9.  Jordan’s Floral and Gifts has donated two hundred roses, and each couple will receive one as they enter the field.  After the vows are renewed, White Doves of Maine will be on hand to release, well, doves!  Finally, the couples will share a first dance on the field as a renewly married pair!

Destination of your second honeymoon?

Additionally, all married couples renewing their vows can enter to win a second honeymoon at Inn By the Sea in Cape Elizabeth.  I worked as a hostess at Inn By the Sea for about two years and have also been as a patron.  I can say with this combined  knowledge of the behind the scenes workings as well as the guest experience, that it is a beautiful, accommodating and luxurious place at which to work and visit.  We will draw the lucky winner during the game.  The winner will receive two nights accommodation at the Inn for two people, as well as a three course dinner at Sea Glass, the Inn’s restaurant.

Beautiful gardens, too!

Sunday June 10th, 2012

Game Time 1:00pm

Gates Open to the Public at 11:30am

Students submitted poems based upon two topics; 1. Your Favorite Summer Memory or 2. Your Favorite Ballpark Food.  I received over 300 poems!  All poets will be recognized on the field before the game and the top three will read their poems to the crowd, as will some honorable mentions.  They will also throw out a first pitch and get some great prizes.  If the winners give me their permission, I will publish them via this blog after the presentation.  UMF played a huge role in this contest, as they not only supplied the support, but also the judges.

Also on Sunday…

  • Dance Studio of Maine will perform a pre-game dance routine.
  • Maine State lottery will be at the game promoting some of their newest games.
  • Fans taking part in our special Father’s Day ticket special will also be at the game.  We are not home on Father’s Day this year (but you can run in our Father’s Day Road Race!
  • And since it’s Sunday, and if the weather and the field hold up like they should, all kids 16 and and under are invited onto the field to run the bases after the game.

It’s a packed weekend, filled with enough activities to entertain the baseball and non-baseball fans alike.  Hope to see you all at Hadlock this weekend!

Think Your Dog is the Cutest?

So, the Dogs (Sea Dogs, in this case) come back to Hadlock Field on Tuesday June 5th for a 7pm game against the Bowie Baysox.  The dogs of the four legged kind will also be at Tuesday’s game as it is the first installment of our “Bark in the Park” program where we allow dogs and their owners to enjoy a Sea Dogs game together in a special section of the park.

Buy your tickets for this particular event through this link:  https://www.ticketreturn.com/prod2/Buy.asp?EventID=70184

You can call the box office at 207-879-9500 and let them know that you would like to purchase the special dog/people ticket for June 5th.  Tickets are only $9.00 and include both you and your dog.

2011 Bark in the Park

Also, fyi, today is the last day that you can enter your dog in our “Cutest Dog” Facebook contest.  The new facebook lay out makes it a little difficult to see the other submissions.  Go to the right hand side to the column titled “Recent Posts by Others on Portland Sea Dogs” and click “see all” and you can see your competition.  We thought this would be a good time to do a contest like this, while our own dog, Slugger, is embroiled in his own contest trying to win the “Best Mascot of MiLB”.  ( On a side note, you can vote for that here:  http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120522&content_id=31974254&vkey=pr_t546&fext=.jsp&sid=t546  You’ll be pleased to know that you don’t have to fill out the entire bracket.  Just vote for Slugger!)

2011 Cutest Dog, enjoying the first pitch.

We will choose and notify the Cutest Dog winner today at 4pm!  The winning couple (Dog and Owner) will throw out a first pitch on June 5th and receive a goodie bag filled with various prizes of the dog variety.  To enter, post a photo of your dog on our facebook page and the reason why they are so great/cute!

The two dogs seen below aren’t part of our contest, but they could be!  These two were featured the websites of the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland and the Animal Welfare Society, respectively.  Not that I spend a lot of time on these sites…

If you DON’T have a cutest dog to enter in our contest or bring to Hadlock Field, but would like one, there are MANY adoptable dogs from the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk and the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook that would love to become a part of your family.

Blockey, in Westbrook.

Lydia, in Kennebunk.

Don’t you want to pay them a visit and take them home?

Hope to see you all at Hadlock on Tuesday.  I know I say this about all of our promotions but it is one of my favorites!
